Meditation

Why is important to calm the mind

Meditation can give a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both emotional well-being and overall health: it reduces stress, promotes productivity, helps concentration and improves relationships and mood.

If we have difficulty meditating, it probably means that we are trying too much to control our mind and practice.

Meditation is not mind control or magic... even if we wish it was. It is a practice that teaches us to be comfortable with our mind as it is.

If you have too many things in mind, don’t let that be a reason why you can’t meditate. In fact, this could be an indication that you need to meditate!

Whether you are new to meditation or an experienced practitioner, thoughts will undoubtedly arise.

In the fast-paced lives of today’s world, it is easy to lose sight of our world as it is tiring to stop and take time to observe one’s own mind. Stopping in the present moment, maybe sitting to observe the world inside of us, may seem a waste of time but I assure you that it is not.

How can i stop thinking and start meditating??

  1. Start at the same time every day

Give yourself time, even 10 minutes a day can be enough. Find a comfortable sitting position, close your eyes and listen to your breath. Every time you realize that your mind is thinking about something else, don’t judge yourself and bring the attention back to your breathing.

  1. Choose your meditation zone

Start by choosing a place in your home where you feel calm and relaxed. If you live in a small apartment in the city, choose an area that does not have much traffic or noise. Make sure there are no phones, computers or electronic devices at your fingertips, because you’ll want to take time away from technology when you’re in your area.

  1. Create the right atmosphere

Try using incense with calming effect such as Sandalwood, Lavender or Patchouli. You can also try to burn Palo Santo sticks, called "Scent of the Soul" as it helps to restore the inner balance, harmonizing body, mind and spirit.

  1. Try with different Pranayama

If you just can’t stop thinking about the past and the future, try to help you focus on breathing with pranayama. They are breathing exercises that clear the physical and emotional obstacles in our body to release the breath and thus the flow of prana - vital energy. You can find several ones in my book "your way to YOGA" available on Amazon.
